Why A Cappella?

On Sunday morning, January 5, 2025, guest speaker John Orr delivered an impactful sermon titled "Why A Cappella". He explored the biblical foundation of a cappella worship, emphasizing that God commands New Testament worship to involve singing and making melody in the heart, as stated in Ephesians 5:19. 

 

John explained that "psallo," the Greek word for "making melody," specifies the heart as the instrument, contrasting man-made instruments. He traced the history of worship practices, differentiating temple worship with instruments from synagogue worship without them, a tradition continued by early Christians. 

 

John underscored that true worship is spiritual, aligning with the teachings of Jesus and the New Testament. He posed a challenge to follow the narrow path of authentic worship, offering the fruit of our lips as a sacrifice of praise to God. The sermon called believers to embrace their role as New Testament priests, singing wholeheartedly to honor God.

One Mind: One Voice Part 1

On January 5, 2025, guest speaker John Orr from HomeMissions led the first session of the congregational singing workshop titled "One Mind: One Voice - Undo" during our morning Bible class. John emphasized that everyone is part of God's choir and that singing is a privilege to praise Him. 

 

The session highlighted the importance of using singing as a means to teach and admonish one another.  John encouraged laughter as a way to loosen up, urging participants to sing with the same heartiness as they laugh. He offered practical advice, such as speaking lyrics if singing feels difficult and overcoming fear by letting go of safety nets. 

 

John passionately reminded attendees that God created their vocal cords as instruments for His praise and that no one should take away their privilege of singing before Him. Singing should feel like a joyous feast, not a somber funeral, and participants were encouraged to open their mouths and sing boldly.

On Sunday morning, December 29, 2024, Cole Tuck delivered a powerful sermon titled "Trade Your Soul." The message emphasized the eternal value of the soul, warning against trading it for worldly gain. He asked thought-provoking questions about the worth of a soul and reminded us of Jesus' promise to return and claim those who are His.

Bible Class - 1 Corinthians Part 11

On Sunday, December 29, 2024, Cole Tuck led a thought-provoking lesson in our 1 Corinthians Bible class. The lesson focused on Paul’s teachings about marriage, the importance of accepting one’s position in life, and the value of prioritizing spiritual matters over physical concerns. It encouraged deep reflection on living faithfully in our circumstances and maintaining a heavenly perspective.

The conversation primarily focused on Christian evidence, examining the foundations of faith and the rational basis for belief. Additionally, the discussion delved into the personal question, "What do you want from Jesus?" encouraging participants to consider their relationship with Christ and their spiritual priorities.

Drawing on Jesus’ teachings, the sermon underscored the value He places on unwavering, constant faith that shapes our lives and actions.

Bible Class - 1 Corinthians Part 10

On Sunday morning, December 22, 2024, Cole Tuck led our Bible study on 1 Corinthians. The discussion covered Paul's teachings on marriage, divorce, and remarriage, emphasizing the sanctity of marriage and the circumstances under which divorce and remarriage may be permissible. Additionally, the study explored Paul's teachings on celibacy, highlighting it as a gift and a choice that allows undivided devotion to the Lord.

Forgotten How to Blush

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, Cole Tuck delivered a powerful sermon titled “Forgotten How to Blush.” He explored the blessing of shame and guilt, the dangers of a seared conscience, and the importance of maintaining a softened heart.  Guilt, when understood properly, can be seen as a blessing in today’s culture because it acts as an internal compass, guiding individuals toward growth, accountability, and positive change.
